Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and Chairman of the National Judicial Council (NJC), Justice Tanko Muhammad has invited selected State’s Chief Judges to an emergency meeting in Abuja.

Those summoned according to our source include; the Chief Judges of Rivers, Kebbi, Cross River, Anambra, Jigawa and Imo State.

According to a letter of invitation dated 30th of August, 2021, the summon & meeting became necessary following incessant granting of court orders on suits instituted before the various courts.

The CJN is reportedly embarrassed by the wave of such conflicting orders from Judges, especially the recent exparte orders granted by Rivers and Kebbi Judges on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Uche Secondus, stay in office.  The meeting is seem as part of measures to curtail the ugly & embarrassing trend.

“My attention has been drawn to media reports to the effect that some courts of coordinate jurisdictions were granting Conflicting exparte orders on the same subject matter. It has become expedient for me to invite you for a detailed briefing on the development. This is even more compelling having regard to an earlier NJC warning to judicial officers on the need to be circumspect in granting exparte applications” the statement said.
