A Member of the Katsina House of Assembly, Hon. Aminu Garba has lamented that indigenes of Katsina state have been rewarded with betrayal by President Muhammadu Buhari rather than appreciation for the “highest” votes he benefitted from the state to become president.
Garba who represents Danmusa State Constituency lamented in reaction to a recent invasion of Marken Dambi, a locality in his constituency, where armed terrorists reportedly killed a man and abducted his wife and daughter.
Sharing the ugly side of the Katsina insecurity challenges as it has affected his constituency, the state lawmaker said, “the Katsina people’s trust have been betrayed. We gave him the highest vote in Nigeria so that he becomes the President.”
“As my colleagues have lamented, just yesterday they came into Danmusa town in a locality called Marken Dambi and killed a man and took away his wife and her daughter yester night. I went for a security meeting at Danmusa with all stakeholders outraged. There is an 80 man security force called special squad but does not hinder miscreants from storming in and carrying out their activities.
“I specifically told residents of Danmusa to pack their belongings and relocate elsewhere, I insisted. I do not regret my statement. We were all elected by same people. I do not have anywhere else to call my town than Danmusa but yet I cannot go there at will. People are killed, houses set ablaze, wealth vandalized. Is this how we will remain?
“The security force that are there are not combatant they are even scared. Yesterday we invited a Major who said he apologises to residents of Danmusa LG that what they are supposed to do is not what they are doing, he said that publicly without reservation. It is unfortunate. Frankly speaking we are overwhelmed”.
“This challenge can only be handled by God Almighty and Buhari (the President). He can do that within seven days. What is our crime in Katsina. We elected him to be our President but today Katsina is the worst hit by crime and hardship. We have to tell ourselves the truth. This pretence, hide and seek will lead us nowhere. I call without regrets. What is our sin to President Muhammadu Buhari who doubles as Commander In Chief but day in day out crime continues to rise”.
Garba said it was disheartening to be witnessing situations where both mother and daughter are kidnapped and a mother would watch her daughter being raped and will remain helpless as it appears no one can utter a word, adding that their continued silence and pretence as elected leaders will not help the situation.
He further suggested that the entire stakeholders and leadership class in the state should march to the president and ask him what sin the state had committed against him to warrant his silence in the face of such heinous acts by miscreants.
Meanwhile, the lawmaker’s claim that Katsina voted the highest does not seem entirely true, as both presidential elections won by Buhari had highest votes from Kano state. However, votes from Katsina state were the second highest in both elections.
