NCDC gets new DG

A new Director-General (DG) has been appointment for the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), by President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). He is Dr Ifedayo Morayo Adetifa.

According to a statement signed by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Garba Shehu, Adetifa will replace Chikwe Ihekweazu who was recently appointed an assistant director-general of the global health body – World Health Organisation, adding that the president has also approved the setting up of a Health Sector Reform Committee headed by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, as chairman.

“President Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr Ifedayo Morayo Adetifa as the new Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control,” the statement reads in part.

Adetifa, an accomplished pediatrician was educated at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State and the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. He had both Masters and doctorate degrees in Epidemiology from the University of Amsterdan in Netherland. He has also received the Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians.

Prior to his appointment, Dr Ifedayo Morayo Adetifa was an Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
