Senator Shehu Sani has mocked the federal government over its failure to declare bandits as terrorists, saying the government should rather declared them as civil servants.
Sani who last served in the 7th Senate for Kaduna Central Senatorial District, had taken to his Twitter handle, lamenting over the killing of Christian and Muslim worshipers in their religious houses by bandits.
In the tweet, Sani said the bandits killed Muslim worshipers in their mosques in Niger and Katsina States, as well as Christians in their churches in Kaduna State, adding that if the government cannot declare them terrorists, it should declare them federal civil servants.
The media had earlier reported that some gunmen suspected to be bandits had invaded Baptist Church, Kakau Daji in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing two, while scores were said to be abducted.
Chairman of the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Joseph Hayab, while reacting to the incident, said the attack was another sad story of how deteriorating the country’s state of insecurity has become.
“Citizens are being killed like chickens with only press statements as consolation. These evil people have troubled us for too long.
“I condole the families of the Baptist denomination and Kaduna Christians for this loss and urge our security agencies to separate war against enemies of Nigerians from politics. No one knows who will be the next target,” he added.
Sani, who reacted to the incident in an earlier tweet, described as useless, the suspension of telecommunication services in the north which was meant to tackle the bandits.
“Yesterday’s attacks on the Baptist Church Kakau Daji, Kaduna State by terrorists, the killing of some worshippers and the abductions of scores of others is tragic and unfortunate. The suspension of the telecom services in the North is useless”, Sani’s tweet had read.
