A group, on the auspices of Middle-Belt United Assembly (MBUA), has called for the head of Nigeria’s Minister of Justice and Attorney-General, Abubakar Malami, urging President Muhammadu Buhari to move to sanitize his government by immediately sacking the minister.
In a statement by its President, Comrade Moses Mwarga Aji, Sunday, the group noted that the number of scandals and charges hanging over Malami’s head are too numerous and weighty to be disregarded, given the sensitive nature of the post he holds.
The group in the statement warned that allowing the AGF to remain in office would jeopardize Buhari’s legacy, urging the president to select and appoint a new AGF who would be more competent, reliable, and above all, with integrity.
The group condemned the recent invasion of the Abuja residence of Supreme Court judge, Mary Odili, which Malami was accused of being behind, claiming that while the AGF denied his involvement in the act, one of the arrested suspects confessed that he is the AGF’s consultant a few days later.
“There is no smoke without fire. AGF Malami has been accused of a slew of transgressions. The controversies and allegations that hang over Malami’s head are just too serious to be dismissed. It is now up to President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint a more trustworthy individual to work for the country,” the statement partly read
The statement stated that President Buhari was elected by the majority of Nigerians to solve their problems, but that things are worsening and getting out of hand, and that most of Buhari’s appointees are not assisting him because they are serving their own personal interests rather than the interests of Nigerians.
It further stated that the economy and security are in bad form, and while commending the president for his initiative in the area of infrastructure, the group encouraged him to rebuild his administration immediately and bring in good hands to help him fix the country.
