In a significant legislative development, the House of Representatives, today, unanimously adopted the report for A Bill for an Act to Amend the University Teaching Hospitals (Reconstitution of Boards, etc.) Act No. 10, 1985, and for Related Matters, 2023 (HB.962), instituted by the Honourable Member representing Isoko Federal Constitution in the House, Rt. Hon. Engr. Jonathan Ajirioghene Ukodhiko.
The report which was presented during today’s plenary session, by the chairman of the House Committee on Health Institutions, Hon. Amos Gwamna, seeks among others, to amend the existing Act, to include the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Erawha-Owhe, in Isoko North, Delta State, within the framework of federal university teaching hospitals across Nigeria.
Speaking after the session, an elated Ukodhiko expressed optimism about the bill’s prospects, stating that a huge history is about to be made in Isoko Nation.
“I am confident that this Bill will successfully pass through the third reading and receive the president’s assent. Its enactment will establish the first-ever federal institution in Isoko Federal Constituency, marking a historic milestone for our people.
“This Bill’s passage would not only improve healthcare delivery but also catalyze educational and economic development in the Isoko region. The proposed Federal University Teaching Hospital, Erawha-Owhe, is projected to serve as a hub for medical excellence, attracting talent and resources while addressing critical healthcare challenges in the area.
Observers and constituents alike have lauded this legislative effort, viewing it as a bold step toward bridging regional disparities in access to federal institutions and fostering growth in Delta State, and bringing Federal Government presence to the oil rich Isoko Nation. As the Bill advances toward its third reading, hopes remain high for its speedy and successful passage, and eventual implementation.
