The bye-election to fill the vacuum left with the demise of Late Hon. Kenneth Edafe Ogba, has been schedule to hold on Saturday September 11, 2021.
Ogba, a first term lawmaker who died on Sunday 27th June, 2021, was until his death the Honourable Member representing Isoko South Constituency I and Chairman House Committee on Power and Energy in the Delta State House of Assembly. He passed away barely two years into his tenure.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in a statement released by its National Commissioner and Chairman of its information and Voters Education Committee, Barr. Festus Okoye, declared the seat of Isoko South Constituency II, as vacant, adding that the said declaration was occasioned by the death of the occupant.
The statement reads, “the official notification for the election will be published on the 13th of August, 2021. Political parties shall conduct their primaries from 14th-21st August, 20121. The access code for the online submission of nomination forms will be available for collection from 21st August, 2021 at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, while the last day for the submission of list of nominated candidates is 26th August, 2021 at 6pm”.
The Commission further said that “the timetable and schedule of activities for the bye-election has been uploaded on the website and social media platforms. Political parties interested in fielding candidates for the election must conduct valid primaries that meets the intendment of section 87 of the Electoral Act (as amended) and upload the personal particulars of the candidate that won the primaries to the commission’s candidate nomination portal as candidate of the party”.
Adding that Political parties also must conduct campaigns and rallies in accordance with the guild lines and protocols released by the health authorities.
