The Rector of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Dr Moses Umobong has felicitated with Governor Udom Emmanuel and the people of the state as Akwa Ibom marks the 34th anniversary of state creation.
In a statement signed by the Rector, on behalf of the governing council, management, staff, students and the entire polytechnic community, Dr Umobong congratulated the government and people of Akwa Ibom State on what he referred to as an epoch making occasion.
He noted with delight that a look at the educational sector of the State in the last 34 years will show positive tremendous growth and development which will make the state’s founding fathers proud that their labour to midwife the creation of the State on September 23, 1987 was not in vain.
He stated that while a cursory glance at the past will show that the state has made giant strides educationally, an evaluation of the present educational policies of government will prove that the state is on the right track to laying a solid foundation that will propel her to greatness and global competitiveness.
The Rector appreciated Governor Udom Emmanuel for his commitment to creating and sustaining a viable, dynamic, effective and efficient educational system that will put the Akwa Ibom child at par with their contemporaries any where in the world, noting that the massive investments of government in repositioning the education sector is a positive step at ensuring that the sector plays its critical role of creating the much needed manpower that will train, produce and supply the much needed skilled, technological and innovative manpower that will drive the government’s industrial revolution in the state.
Umobong also commended the Governor for his magnanimity towards Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic as reflected in the prompt payment of staff salaries, the creation of a conducive working and learning environment, the provision of critical infrastructures, his support to the polytechnic at ensuring that all courses offered in the institution gets the required NBTE accreditation, among others, assuring that the institution’s governing council, management and staff will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the polytechnic remains a reference point and center of entrepreneurial excellence, innovation and one of Nigeria’s foremost polytechnic of choice in the country.
The Rector further called on all stakeholders in the education sector to join hands and support government efforts at repositioning the sector.
