A former Commissioner in the State, Rt Hon. (Barr.) Ekong Sampson has called for the use of the Ibom Deep Seaport to build bridges of unity across the state, urging relevant players and stakeholders to unite to see to the realization of what he described as a ‘mega project’.
Dr Sampson made the call yesterday in Uyo when he received in audience a delegation of the Oro Union Youth Wing led by their International President, Ulap Uwe Akan.
Receiving the Oro youths who were on the courtesy visit to invite the former State Lawmaker as a Special Guest to the forthcoming Oro Youth Summit, Dr Sampson stated that the Deep Seaport was a super project which should be used as a bridge builder between Oro and the rest of the state. He said the project on take off will offer stupendous benefits to the state and that the people of Oro would be the biggest beneficiaries.
Addressing the delegation, Dr Sampson said, “I have always lived a life canvassing for bridge building across boards. As such, we should use the Deep Seaport to build bridges’, adding that ‘the firmer the Akwa Ibom Unity bridge is, the stronger we are as a people. Conversely, the weaker the bridge is, the more vulnerable we are as a people”.
He urged them to partner with the State and Federal Government towards the realization of the project.
He equally used the opportunity to pay tributes to the Oro Nation describing them as a people with a very rich history, scholastic depth and great personalities, calling on them to immediately set up a book club to compliment their rich repertory.
Earlier in his speech, the International President of the Oro Union Youth Wing, Ulap Uwe Akan heaped praises on Barr. Sampson for being a true friend of Oro and for always identifying with their causes, assuring him of a continuous sustenance of such affable relationship.
The Oro Youth Summit with the theme, ‘Oro Nation, Utilizing Opportunities from our Endowments’, comes up on Friday, 15th October, 2021 at the Civic Centre, Oron.
